In north-eastern Oltenia, in the Valcea county, at
18 km northwest of Ramnicu Valcea, Olanesti lies in
a narrow valley, at the foot of Capatanei Massif in Southern
Carpathians, at a 450 m altitude. The town is crossed by a crystal-clear
brook, Olanesti, which is a tributary of the Olt river.
The hills around the resort are covered with oak and beech forests,
which, combined with a continental climate of cool, sunny summers
and mild winters proper to this area, yield a highly ozonized and
pure air to breathe. But the fine air is not the only natural asset
of Olanesti: the resort has been mainly known for its over
30 springs, whose mineral waters have remarkable healing qualities.
