Olanesti is open to visitors all the year round, for a health
cure with mineral waters or merely. For an enjoyable holiday, one's
best choice for accommodation would be the Parang Hotel.
Cultural destinations within walking distance are: the Wooden
Church of Albac (1476), Frasinet Monastery, hermitages
of Iezeru (1559) or of monk Pahomie's (1520). Other
monasteries that are worth visiting in the area (25-100 km from
Olanesti) are Cozia, Stanisoara, Cheia or Turnu
monasteries, as well as Hurez, One Piece of Wood,
Arnota, Govora ones.
Once settled in Olanesti, you can do a lot of walking, driving
and climbing around, including the picturesque Olt gorges
and the mountain resort of Voineasa, or the Vidra
lake. You can always make local arrangements for hunting and fishing.
In Olanesti you can visit St. Nicholas Church (1718)
built by Draghici Olanescu, with fine mural paintings and
a wooden carved door (1729), Horea's Church (1746), with
a 21 m belfry, various Valcea peasant style cottages, i.e.
Badescu house (18th century), Olanescu house (19th
century).

One of the many 'princely' residences of the Ceausescu's
couple, which was to be inaugurated in December 1989, is now a museum.
A visit to the medieval fortified houses at Maldarasti or
a souvenir bought directly from the peasant potters in Horezu
could be ranged among the region's cultural attractions.
There are a number of caves in the area for those interested in
speleology, namely the Fisherman's, the Woman's and
the Polovragi ones.
